A new website and app has been launched to help in the fight against sex trafficking and exploitation.
On Tuesday, EGADZ (Saskatoon Downtown Youth Centre) unveiled its Cyber Outreach initiative “I Am Not for Sale”. The website and app were developed by the younger generation to help vulnerable individuals who are sexually exploited and trafficked through social media.
EGADZ executive director Don Meikle says the project was about a year in the making and got emotional when talking about it.
“It’s emotional because it’s so important,” said Meikle. “If this helps one kid that is thinking of trying it (trafficking) or somebody is coercing them into it and they can reach out for help, it’s well worth it.”
The free app provides immediate access to 24-hour resources with confidential, appropriate supports.
In a statement, Meikle goes on to say, “our most vulnerable population can now come out of the dark, to a confidential, safe, secure environment that can offer help at a click of a button”.
