A Kindersley man must pay back more than $22,000 in workers’ compensation payments that he collected while he was gainfully employed.
Carey Nelson Lobzun, 58, pleaded guilty to fraud over $5,000 and received a community sentence Tuesday in Saskatoon Provincial Court.
Court heard he had gone on workers’ compensation in 2007, but continued to collect payments after he returned to work.
He owes $22,115.63 in restitution and must make payments of at least $400 a month.
Lobzun’s lawyer said his client has already started paying back some of the money and is extremely remorseful for his actions. He said Lobzun has no criminal record, noting that drug abuse was a factor in the crime.
Lobzun recognized that he needed to stop hanging around with certain people and has been sober for six years, court heard.
He was sentenced to two years less a day to be served in the community.
