People clutched hot chocolate in mittened hands and sang along with Christmas classics in front of Regina City Hall for the kickoff to the holiday season on Tuesday, and to Light the Lights.
For many it’s the way to start the season.
“It’s nice to kind of start getting the festive spirit going in the city,” said Corey Romphf.
At about -4 C at 6:30 p.m. and no snow on the ground, it didn’t feel much like Christmas.
“(The weather)’s been amazing, but we’re hoping it’ll kick off with some snow soon,” said Joleen Klassen.
When it came time to light the lights, the crowd counted down, and the button was pushed … but it took a minute or two for the lights to actually turn on.
The lines for the sleigh rides with huge, bell-laden Sanguine Clydes wound around the square. And the entranceway of city hall was packed for the kids’ main event, as they waited impatiently for their turn to sit on Santa’s lap.
