Not everyone is celebrating the lack of winter. Snow removal companies have seen a quieter start to the season.
Monte Dobson with Rapid Lawn Hydroseeding says it sure is different from last year.
“I was looking back last year and we started snow removal on Nov. 24 and this year we basically haven’t had a snow flake to date yet,” he explained.
Dobson’s business is mostly concentrated on the lawn side, and while they have some snow removal contracts, most of that side of the work is based on hourly or per-visit rates. So at least to this point “we are struggling from an income perspective”.
Fortunately, and like many snow removal companies in Regina, the business is split into seasonal work. Rapid Lawn Hydroseeding has had the benefit of the warm weather extend the typical summer jobs.
“Our landscaping season has extended I would say probably a month longer than usual this year. And we also had a earlier start this spring, so we have actually had one of our best years on record.”
Dobson’s crews have also kept busy cleaning and maintaining equipment. Although Dobson admits they can only do that for so long.
