The Riders picked up Chris Jones from the Eskimos, officially announcing his addition to the green and white’s coaching staff on Monday – but Edmonton fans aren’t shedding tears .
Morley Scott does the Eskimos’ play-by-play for CHED in Edmonton. Speaking with the CJME Morning Show, Scott said fans aren’t angry at Jones.
“It’s a move up for him, it’s an opportunity to have more responsibility, it’s an opportunity to make more money. I don’t think people are upset that Chris Jones got involved in conversations and wanted to make that move because of the situation, and it’s a good move for him.”
Scott said the feeling on Monday morning when they knew Jones was going to leave, was very different from the feeling the Monday before after the Eskimos won the Grey Cup.
Jones was in the middle of his three-year contract with the Eskimos when he was given permission to talk to the Riders.
Some, including Scott, believe Edmonton should get some compensation.
“I just think there’s got to be something in place that protects teams who have done their work, and signed their coach, and now have to go out and find a new coaching staff.”
