It is not uncommon to see a coyote or two wandering around Wascana Park during winter months. The Wascana Centre Authority is sending out a reminder to anyone who crosses a coyote while walking, skiing, or doing other outdoor activities in the park.
The authority recommends, if you come face to face with one, do not run away. Instead, raise your hands over your head, and yell and clap at the coyote to scare it.
Do not feed or leave food for coyotes as this will lead to the animal losing its fear of humans. Also, dogs should always be on a leash.
Coyotes have existed in Wascana Park during winter months for decades. They are a natural part of the prairie ecosystem and they help control rodents within the park.
