Regina board of police commissioners approves extension of rewards in Keepness case, triple murder

A pair of cash rewards that may help Regina police solve two of the city’s biggest crime mysteries will be offered for at least another year.

The city’s board of police commissioners voted Wednesday to approve extending the $50,000 reward in connection to the 2004 disappearance of Tamra Keepness and the triple murder in the Uplands neighbourhood from 2010.

The offer for the reward money will be extended for at least another year until Dec. 31, 2016.

The reward to locate Keepness was originally set at $25,000 in 2004 when the five-year-old first went missing from her home in the 1800 block of Ottawa Street. Police made the decision to keep the reward at that figure until the amount was increased to $50,000 in July 2014.

At around the same time, police announced they’d be offering a $50,000 reward for tips leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for killing three Burmese refugees in their Oakview Drive townhouse. Thirty-one-year-old Gray Nay Htoo, 28-year-old Maw Maw and their three-year-old son Seven June Htoo were murdered in August 2010.

Police are hoping the money will entice somebody with information on the crimes to come forward and help police crack the cases.
