Organized crime charges have officially been laid against seven men already facing a combination of drug, weapon and assault charges in connection to the Project Forseti drug busts across Saskatchewan and Alberta earlier this year.
The Saskatoon Police Service followed through on a declaration made back in June that organized crime charges would be coming.
Fourteen arrests were initially made following the drug takedown on Jan. 15. Now, seven of those men face organized crime charges, including the man who police said was the president of the Fallen Saints motorcycle club in Saskatoon.
That man, 45-year-old Mark Nowakowski, is charged with participation in a criminal organization, recruitment to a criminal organization, committing an offence for the benefit of a criminal organization and directing an offence for the benefit of a criminal organization.
Justin Smith, 33, Ryan Hillman, 28 and Armand Hounjet, 44, are charged with participation in a criminal organization, recruitment to a criminal organization, committing an offence for the benefit of a criminal organization.
Layne Boorman, 25, and Carl Trobak, 28, face charges of participation in a criminal organization and committing an offence for the benefit of a criminal organization.
Daryl Nagy, 26, faces a single charge of committing an offence for the benefit of a criminal organization.
Calgary man first to be sentenced in Project Forseti bust
According to RCMP, Terry Eide, 32, appeared in Red Deer court earlier this month and pleaded guilty to trafficking cocaine and weapons offences. He was sentenced to eight years in prison.
Police have said the man from Calgary was a full-patch Hells Angels member.
