All the hype finally came to a head as Star Wars: The Force Awakens came to screens in Saskatoon.
People coming out of the first showing at the Scotiabank Cinema downtown were generally positive about the film. Some, like Jolanta Bird, who came to the theatre sporting a Chewbacca onesie, were absolutely over the moon.
“I’m speechless. I sat down for like, two minutes. I couldn’t breathe or talk at the end of it,” she said.
Bird said director J.J. Abrams acquitted himself well in the high-pressure spot of taking over the beloved franchise, saying she would put The Force Awakens just one notch behind Star Wars: Return of the Jedi — her all-time favourite in the series.
Opportunities to see the movie shouldn’t bee too hard to come by for those who couldn’t score tickets to opening night. Between the downtown theatre and the Cineplex Odeon theatre at Centre Mall, Star Wars is showing 86 times between Friday and Sunday.
