Staff at Mission Ridge Winter Park are busy making snow while the cold weather holds ahead of the Christmas rush.
Ski hill manager Don Williams says the conditions have improved substantially compared to last weekend. Four out of 10 runs from the top of the hill will be open on Saturday compared to two that were open last week. Some features at the terrain park will be open, along with most of the bunny hill.
“It’s been quite a trial this year making snow. The warm weather delayed us three weeks,” Williams explained. “So we’re playing catch up as best we can. Every time we get a little bit of cold weather, we’re out there making snow.”
The recent drop in temperature late this week was an early Christmas present for Williams and his team. He says they will likely continue running the snow guns while the hill is open on Saturday and Sunday.
“We’ll probably have another one or two (runs) open on Sunday and probably more on Monday,” he said.
Despite the lack of snow on Dec. 12, Williams said opening weekend was pretty good and he expects business to pick up for the rest of the holiday week.
