Five people, including three teens, face a slew of charges after three armed robberies and a police chase between Clavet and North Battleford.
Saskatoon RCMP got a call about an armed robbery at a rural residence south of Clavet at 2:50 a.m. Saturday. A short time later, they received a second call involving the same suspects.
Following the robberies, the suspects rolled their stolen SUV near Highway 16. When two women stopped to help them, the suspects robbed them at gunpoint and stole their car. The women hid in the bushes and were not physically hurt.
RCMP spotted the car and followed it through the north end of Saskatoon. They tried to stop the car three times with spike strips but the suspects got away and headed north on Highway 16.
The five people abandoned the car just south of North Battleford and ran off. Four suspects, including an adult man, two boys aged 15 and 16, and one 16-year-old girl were caught right away while a fifth, a 21-year-old man, was caught with the help of the canine unit.
The 21-year-old was taken to hospital and treated for his injuries caused by the dog.
The five are from North Battleford and nearby First Nations communities. They face 33 charges of armed robbery, utter threats of death, assault with a weapon, pointing a firearm, assaults, flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, resist arrest, possession of weapons dangerous to the public and multiple property-related offences including mischief, break-ins, and possession of stolen property.
