Yuletide storms not in the forecast for southern Sask.

Bundling up with layer upon layer may not be required on Christmas this year – Environment Canada said we aren’t expecting any big storms.

Meteorologist Mark Melsness said there aren’t any major systems on the horizons.

“The jet stream has dipped a little bit to the south of Saskatchewan so it’s going through the northern States, so that’s taking some of the stronger systems to the south and to the east of the province, so kind of bypassing Saskatchewan.”

Temperatures are expected drop a bit as Christmas Day gets closer. The weather should be alright for those taking a trip though – the forecast doesn’t have much more than snow flurries mid week and Christmas Eve, and a clear cool Christmas Day, at sunny and -17 C.

But Beyond Christmas?

“This type of weather pattern with El Niño tends to produce slightly milder, and slightly drier types of winters, but that being said, you certainly can’t discount some deep freezes,” explains Melsness.
