Christmas joy served by Regina's Souls Harbour Rescue Mission

Christmas joy was served to those who might not otherwise feel it this season.

Souls Harbour Rescue Mission provided Christmas dinner to about 350 of Regina’s most vulnerable on Wednesday.

All the trimmings were provided for the sit-down meal: turkey, cranberries, vegetables, mash potatoes and gravy. There were also gifts to take home. The group Free Spirit provided the Christmas entertainment.

The mission’s Patty Humphreys said it is an important event because “everyone should have a positive, safe, holiday experience”.

But an event like this doesn’t happen without help.

“It has literally taken us hundreds of volunteer hours and volunteers to be able to put this together,” Humphreys explained. “The response is phenomenal and it is something this time of year we don’t fall short on.”

Last month, Souls Harbour put out the call for donations and help and is grateful for the support they have received.

This isn’t the biggest meal of the year though; that is reserved for Thanksgiving.
