They will be adversaries in next year’s provincial election but right now from their families to you, Premier Brad Wall and NDP leader Cam Broten are wishing you a very Merry Christmas.
This is Wall’s first Christmas without his daughter Megan. She got married this past summer and is now studying in Belgium with her husband but they will make time to Skype with her.
While it will be a busy season, Wall contends he will be taking time this year for reflection.
“I am very, very grateful for family and grateful for the job that I have,” said Wall from his office.
But he says there is some weight on his mind, especially the effects from the downturn in the economy, “there is worry out there, so I think about those folks”.
Cam Broten will be enjoying a traditional Norwegian feast with his family and they will burn it off cross country skiing and sledding with the three kids.
This year the Broten adopted a family in the hopes the girls would learn that Christmas is more than just presents.
“I want them to get that bigger view of what Christmas is about, it is not just about getting, it is about giving.”
Broten reminds you to take a moment to pause, slow down and remember what is most important.
