Regina’s malls were filled with people hunting for post-holiday deals on Saturday – traffic was thick, and parking lots were full, but some people were willing to wait outside for the best deals.
The line outside Best Buy in Regina’s east end moved at a steady pace into the store all morning, but didn’t get any shorter as more and more people were constantly adding to the end of it.
Some knew exactly what they were looking for, like a watch, a laptop, or video games. While others, like Lian Jiang were just out with friends, “I’ll look around and see if something’s, like, a good deal.”
Eliaja Lafontaine was there with his son. He said they’re from out of town, so they don’t get to go Boxing Day shopping much.
“When we get a chance to do it, we do. It’s kind of nice that it’s on a weekend this year.”
Taylor Schiltz waited in line, bundled up with a coffee cup in hand. She was hoping to save a few hundred dollars and pick up a laptop for school. When asked whether it was really worth to stand out in the -23 C cold, she laughed and replied: “I guess so, otherwise I wouldn’t be here.”
Most people waiting in line were in good spirits, despite the cold, though several said they wouldn’t have been willing to wait in the early morning cold before the store’s doors opened, like several did.
