A female prisoner on remand from Pine Grove Correctional Centre in Prince Albert died in hospital late Sunday night.
The Ministry of Justice is not revealing details about the deceased, out of consideration to the family.
Drew Wilby, ministry spokesperson, said foul play is not suspected in the death. The prisoner was in a single cell at Pine Grove.
He said three investigations will take place, between police, the ministry, and the coroner.
The coroner’s inquest will take place over the next six months.
“Of course our thoughts are with this individual’s family and friends at this time,” Wilby said.
