More adult players are now investing in the protective equipment.
The Saskatoon Blades made a couple of trades Monday.
They picked up 1997-born defenceman Dustin Perillat from the Moose Jaw Warriors in exchange for a conditional second-round pick in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft, a fifth-round pick (Swift Current’s) in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft, and the rights to defenceman Dean Stewart.
Perillat, a Saskatoon native, has missed the majority of the season due to a broken jaw but is close to returning to game action. In 58 games with the Warriors last season, Perillat recorded eight goals and 20 assists.
The team also acquired 1995-born defenceman Colton Waltz, and 1997-born forward Braylon Shmyr from the Brandon Wheat Kings in exchange for Schael Higson, Mitch Wheaton, and a second round pick in 2017.
Waltz has recorded two goals, 14 assists, and 47 penalty minutes in 34 games this season for the Wheat Kings.
Shmyr is a former first-round pick of the Wheat Kings. He has eight goals and eight assists in 23 games this season.
