No one was hurt when a cargo plane slipped off a runway and hit the grass at Regina International Airport early Monday evening.
Regina Airport Authority CEO Dick Graham says the crash alarms went off at 5:30 p.m. when a metro-jet cargo plane operated by Carson Air went off the runway. He says there were two people on board but they were both safe.
The main runway for passenger planes was not impacted at all.
“Transport Canada and the Transportation Safety Board (TSB) were notified and the TSB has approved the movement of the aircraft. It’s sitting about 75 feet into the grass and we’re now preparing to move the aircraft,” Graham said around 6:45 p.m. Monday.
Graham said it’s too early at this point to identify what caused the slip up.
“Runway conditions appear to be very good over the course of the last few days with the weather that we’ve had, so we’re not entirely sure,” Graham noted.
The TSB will be doing a full investigation to determine the cause.
