More adult players are now investing in the protective equipment.
It is just a few hours a week but it means a person newly immigrated to Regina feels integrated to their new home.
The Regina Public Library (RPL) has long offered adult literacy programs, in particular English-as-a-second language courses. But the need is so great that the wait lists to get into the programs are growing.
That is why RPL is asking you to give the gift of English. The library is looking for about 250 volunteers, and need 50 more people to make that goal.
Currently they have just over 140 volunteers tutoring adults across the city.
Training is provided for new tutors and RPL executive director Jeff Barber doesn’t believe what is asked of the volunteers is a big commitment.
“In the neighbourhood of eight hours for our tutor training program,” Barber explained. “As well as, we ask for a one-year commitment of about two hours a week to spend with a learner.”
