With a monster El NiƱo at work, the mercury hasn’t been dipping quite as low this winter – that means people haven’t been using as much natural gas.
According to SaskEnergy, natural gas usage is down about 15 per cent this winter from the last few years.
Last winter there were colder snaps toward the end of the season, which drove up use. SaskEnergy said it’s expecting something similar this year, so it’s predicting that by the end of winter usage will only be down about 10 per cent.
The relatively warm temperatures haven’t affected power usage much – SaskPower said consumption is only down two per cent this winter.
