Construction continued to move along at a swift pace in Regina in 2015.
The value of building permits reached $675.7 million. That’s about $47 million higher than 2014, when the total reached $628.1 million. The figures from the past year are also ahead of the five- and 10-year averages by about $4 million and $155 million, respectively.
“I am very pleased with the building development with this year,” said Mayor Michael Fougere in a news release. “Increases in both the number of permits issued and the value of those permits shows continued confidence in our strong economy, even at a time when housing starts have slowed.”
The most-recent building permit values for December show a year-over-year increase of $10 million. New schools, a new grocery store on Albert Street, and a new financial institution on Prince of Wales were some of the projects included in the month.
The city expects 2016 to be another strong year for investment. The new stadium and sewage treatment plant are expected to be completed. As well, several other major projects are slated to begin or continue construction including Capital Pointe, the International Trade Centre, and new P3 schools.
