Have you ever wanted to have your very own dragon? A Regina pet shop is looking for new homes for a few pets surrendered to them – but these aren’t puppies.
Eight bearded dragons were surrendered to Prairie Aquatics and Exotics, a local pet shop, in the past few months.
Stuart Cook is one of the owners and he said they normally might get one every month or so.
When asked why this happened, Cook said it’s probably just bad timing.
“In some cases people are buying animals and not being given all the information they need, and then they end up having something they’re not really prepared to deal with.”
Cook said bearded dragons are easy to take care of, and they’re very social animals.
“You sit down, watch TV, and they’ll just snuggle into your chest, sit on your lap, sit on your stomach. They really like spending time with people.”
The shop has four of the reptiles left and is looking for good homes for them.
“We want to make sure that those who are going to take these guys on are fully aware of everything they need and are prepared to care for them for the next seven or eight years of their lives,” said Cook.
A person would need space for a four foot by two foot tank, the right heating and light, and the ability to feed the animal at least once a day.
