A phone scam targeting immigrants is making its way across Canada, including Saskatoon.
Police say people have reported getting calls from someone claiming to be from Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC). The fraudsters try to convince their victims they broke the law and could be deported unless they pay a fine over the phone.
According to police, CIC would never phone people asking for money. They urge anyone who received this call to hang up and call police at 306-975-8300, or report it online at saskatoonpoliceservice.ca.
