The process of rebuilding the Saskatchewan Roughriders secondary has begun.
On Monday, the team announced the signing of former Stampeders defensive back Derrius Brooks.
The 27-year-old played for the Stampeders in 2012 and 2013 collecting 52 tackles, nine special teams tackles, and five interceptions in 20 regular seasons games. Brooks also picked up 16 tackles in three playoff games and one tackle in the 2012 Grey Cup won by the Toronto Argonauts.
After his two seasons in Calgary, Brooks signed with the New Orleans Saints at the beginning of 2014. He played in four pre-season games for the Saints before being released. He then signed on with the Tampa Bay Buccaneeers in September for the rest of the season.
The Riders are in the market for defensive backs after releasing starting veterans Terrell Maze, Weldon Brown and Tristan Jackson earlier this off-season.
