UPDATE: Secure mode lifted at 2 Regina high schools after online threat Monday

Two Regina high schools were put into a “secure the building” mode Monday morning as a precaution after an online threat was made.

The Regina Police Service says a student at Balfour Collegiate received a threat on social media.

Both the Regina Public School Division and the Regina Catholic School Division say they were advised by police to put Balfour and Miller Comprehensive High School under a “secure the building” mode as a safety precaution.

“Secure the building” means that the doors of the buildings were locked, but classes and activities ran as usual inside the building. School resource officers were on hand at each building, and each exterior door of the school was monitored by staff members until the mode was lifted.

The safety precautions were lifted at both schools as of 2:30 p.m. and students were able to leave at the normal dismissal time.

Regina police say they have a 17-year-old boy in custody, but the investigation continues and there is no word on any charges at this point.
