Highway 4 is back open north of Swift Current after a semi rolled Monday releasing some of the uranium concentrate it was carrying.
The RCMP turned the scene over to the Ministry of Environment Tuesday afternoon. On Wednesday morning, the ministry confirmed that the highway had been reopened to traffic around 9 p.m. Tuesday.
The rollover happened around noon on Monday about 10 kilometres north of Swift Current. The driver wasn’t hurt.
The semi was carrying 63 drums of uranium concentrate bound for Cameco’s refinery in Blind River, Ont. Cameco says a small amount of the concentrate spilled from one of the containers, but explained that it posed no health hazard.
The Ministry of Environment says the damaged container was put into an overpack to be safely hauled away.
