Growing up, some of us imagined flying down the ice with the likes of Wendel Clark and Paul Coffey.
With an event coming up, the Heart and Stroke foundation is giving people the chance to live those dreams.
Registration is open for 16 teams of fundraisers to take part in a weekend tournament May 6-8, alongside a group of NHL alumni.
The team that raises the most money will get first pick in a draft including the likes of Coffey, Clark, Al Iafrate, Tiger Williams, Brad May, Rick Vaive and Mike Krushelnyski.
More NHL alumni involved with the tournament will be announced in coming months. Kevin Vinding, a volunteer ambassador with the foundation, urged people to take part in the event.
He said vital funds will be raised for the organization’s work — which he credits for saving his life after a heart attack at age 44.
“If it wasn’t for the defibrillator, and the teamwork that was involved, I wouldn’t be standing here today with my family. I want to support (the tournament) so that we can bring home more survivors in the future,” he said.
