Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for a large swath of the Prairies.
Cold arctic air is once again sweeping into Saskatchewan as a ridge of high pressure builds over the province.
Temperatures below -30 C combined with winds of 15 to 20 km/h are producing wind chills of -40 C or lower. Places like Meadow Lake in northern Saskatchewan had already hit -38 C by 8 a.m.
Frost bite and hypothermia are a concern for people not dressed properly in this weather — especially infants, seniors, and those who work outdoors.
Meteorologist Jason Knight explained the cold snap is only expected to last through the weekend.
“Monday, looks like we’ll see a little bit of cloud … rising to about -17, but it just keeps getting warmer from there, by the end of the week, we’re looking, Friday, at highs of -1.”
