An extreme cold warning ended in southern Saskatchewan early Monday morning after the coldest weekend of the winter so far.
Regina saw the temperature dip to -34.6 C Saturday night, with a windchill of -43 C. It’s the only day so far this winter to see the temperature below -30 C.
However, the cold isn’t sticking around.
“Already, we have a new disturbance moving in from the west that’s bringing in some cloud cover, little bit of warmer air,” explained Environment Canada meteorologist Jason Knight. The warmer air will also bring up to five centimetres of snow, beginning later Monday and lasting throughout the night.
Knight says the average temperature for this time of year is highs of -11 C and lows of -22 C. By Friday, the forecast shows temperatures in the Queen City reaching 0 C.
“El Niño does seem to kick back in.”
