After jury selection on Monday, witnesses will begin presenting evidence Tuesday morning in the murder trial of Tammy and Kevin Goforth.
The Regina couple is charged with second-degree murder in the death of a four-year-old girl who was in their care in the summer of 2012.
The two are also accused of causing injuries to a two-year-old who was also in their care.
The Goforths deny the charges.
The Crown alleges the four-year-old died, in part, as a result of injuries linked to malnutrition and dehydration suffered at the Goforth’s hands.
A Regina police constable will take the stand first with what is expected to be lengthy and graphic evidence.
Tension is already high in the court room as family members for both the accused and the victims are listening to the evidence.
A publication ban is in place preventing the reporting of the names of the victims.
First witness in Goforth trial is Cst. Garth Fleece for the Regina Police forensic ID unit. Took photos, collected evidence at scene.

Fleece testified that locks or chains were found on the outside of most doors in the Goforth home.

Fleece admits his search parameters was only “things that could bind”. He didn’t look for items to show girls were cared for.

The girls bedroom also had colouring books, bright decorations on the wall, kids toys and a chalkboard.

Fleece doesn’t recall all locks on doors, the doors of the Goforth home were not locked at the time and they were high up locks.
