Smoke detector alerts Regina family to basement fire

A family made it out of a home in north Regina after being woken up by their smoke detector early Wednesday morning.

Regina Fire & Protective Services were called to the home on Litzenberger Crescent at 4:10 a.m. Crews arrived to find a fire in the basement, and were able to contain it there.

Four people were inside the home when the fire began – one person had mobility issues. Everyone was able to get out of the home, but two people were still taken to hospital for smoke inhalation.

Regina fire says there was light smoke damage to the main floor of the home, but most of the damage was to the basement. The cost of the damage won’t be known until investigators can assess the scene.
