More than 300 drivers were stopped by police in Saskatchewan for impaired driving in December, but that number is lower than the last few Decembers.
In December 2015, police put a spotlight on impaired driving, with officers keeping a close eye on drivers who they suspected may be driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. SGI reports that there were 308 offences throughout the month, 300 of those being Criminal Code charges.
Officers have put the same spotlight on impaired driving the previous two Decembers, which both saw higher numbers. In December 2014, 381 offences were recorded with December 2013 seeing 436.
October 2015 saw the highest number of offences in previous months, with 373.
Along with impaired driving, officers also issued 3,124 tickets for speeding and aggravated driving in December, 95 tickets for cell phone use while driving, and 229 tickets involving seatbelt use.
