Regina public schools announce boundaries for new joint-use schools

Things will be shifting for about 1,300 elementary school children as changes are being announced regarding the makeup of enrolment of three new joint-use schools in Regina.

Regina Public Schools is reminding parents new schools will be opening in three locations in 2017. The schools in Greens on Gardiner and Harbour Landing will offer both English only and French immersion options, while Rosewood Park in Coopertown will have English only.

To get ready for the new buildings, the public system is announcing programming and boundary changes at existing schools.

Those students who live in the Rosewood Park area who are currently attending or will attend MacNeill and Centennial Schools’ English programs will attend the new school. Centennial will transition into a new French centre for north Regina. Those currently enrolled in French immersion will remain at Centennial. That school’s English program will move over to the new Rosewood Park school.

Current and future students of W.F. Ready School, along with French immersion students of W.S. Hawrylak School who are living in the Greens on Gardiner school area, will be going to the new school in that neighbourhood.

Finally, children going to Dr. A.E. Perry and Ethel Milliken Schools – again, both current and future students – along with some students from Massey School will all be going to the new school in Harbour Landing, provided they live in the attendance area.

Students will be given an option to remain at the schools they’re currently at.

Open houses will be held to discuss the changes. Dates will be announced in February. In addition, special teams will be created the year before the changes take effect to help families with their moves.

Schools Naming Campaign

As of now, the three new public schools are unnamed. Regina Public Schools wants to utilize the public’s help in giving them the right name. A Name Your School campaign is now underway. The name must be relevant to education, meaningful to the neighbourhood the school will serve, and must honour or reflect public schools values of I Belong; I Want to Know; I Am Responsible and I Respect.

Forms can be filled out and dropped off at any public school or the division office by March 24, 2016. The final decision will be made by the Board of Education on the new school names.
