Another chunk of the old Traffic Bridge has a date with a pile of explosives.
Crews will be taking down the far north span of the bridge Sunday at 8:30 a.m.
Procedures will be similar to those used in a previous blast that took down the two south spans on Jan. 10.
A 250-metre area around the site will be off limits starting at 7:30 a.m.Sunday. People living in that area have been told to stay indoors for the duration of the work.
People who want to watch the demolition can do so from the south end of the Broadway Bridge. The north end of the bridge will be blocked, as it is within the exclusion zone for the blast. The Broadway Bridge will be closed to vehicle traffic from 7:30 a.m. until after contractor Graham Commuter Partners gives the all-clear.
The Saskatoon Fire Department is warning potential spectators to stay off the river ice — noting that no matter what the temperature, it is never be safe to be out on the ice.
The explosion will only require about 25 per cent of the explosives used in the Jan. 10 blast. The remaining span will get taken down in late 2016.
