Four Saskatchewan teachers were among the hundreds of mourners who packed into an Ontario church to to say goodbye to one of the four people killed during last month’s shooting in La Loche.
The funeral for Adam Wood was held on Saturday at St Paul’s Presbyterian Church in Leaskdale, Ontario.
Wood was killed on Jan. 22 only five months after moving to the remote northern community to begin his teaching career.
Teacher’s aid Marie Janvier and brothers Drayden and Dayne Fountaine were also killed during the shooting rampage at the community high school and a home in the village.
Those who spoke at his service remembered the 35-year-old teacher as a nature-loving, selfless person who enjoyed making others laugh.
Soil from the four communities where he lived, including La Loche, was placed on his casket.
The teachers who traveled from La Loche to Ontario for the funeral were accompanied by staff from the Saskatchewan Teachers Federation.
