Inner-city hockey in Saskatoon got a big boost Monday.
The Kinsmen Hockey League, a 16-team league for core community elementary students, received a donation of 240 helmets.
The donation is courtesy of the host organizing committee for the upcoming Telus Cup West Regional tournament in Saskatoon.
“This donation is huge for our league,” said KHL president Bob Fawcett. “Helmets are the most important piece of equipment and to be able to outfit these kids with new, proper fitting helmets means so much for the safety of our league.”
Sixteen players from the St.John School team were on hand for the presentation and their smiles were from ear to ear.
“These kids generally don’t get new equipment,” said Fawcett. “For them to see brand new helmets never worn by anyone else, they’re pretty excited.”
