The Northern Lights School Division is putting more plans in place as to when the La Loche high school will reopen following last month’s deadly shooting.
Two of the four victims killed on Jan. 22 were at the La Loche Community School’s Dene High School building. Seven others were injured there. Three of those people remain in hospital.
On Friday, the school division confirmed that teachers will return to the building on Feb. 22 following the winter break. A release from the school division said it is still working on restarting the school term, working through curriculum and timetable issues.
The school division says it will continue to communicate with parents and students as to when students will actually return to class.
Shortly after the shooting, some people had called for the building to be torn down – including the community’s acting mayor. On Thursday, Kevin Janvier told News Talk Radio he had changed his stance, saying education needs to be a priority.
