Saskatchewan snowboarder Mark McMorris broke his leg at an event in California Sunday.
“He went through quite a bit of trauma yesterday of course, with that fall on his second run,” Mark’s dad, Don McMorris, told News Talk Radio on Monday.
Mark McMorris took the fall after trying to land a front-side 1440 triple cork at the Air and Style snowboarding event in Los Angeles. He was waiting for surgery on Monday afternoon.
“Pretty good, he’s frustrated a little bit, he was certainly looking forward to finishing off the rest of the year,” Don McMorris said. “He had such a good start to the start of the year and was looking forward to doing well in the event yesterday.”
Doctors have said his outlook for a full recovery is good because there were no torn ligaments or knee damage.
“With a number of months of rehabilitation, roughly up to six – he should be as good as new,” Don McMorris explained.
Mark McMorris released the following statement about his injury.
“I want to thank my family, friends, fans and sponsors for all of the love and support. I’m disappointed to have to sit out for some time, but I am looking forward to getting back on snow as soon as possible.”
The prairie snowboarder won six gold medals in a row at the X Games and a bronze medal at the Sochi Olympic Games.
