One person has been killed in a collision between a semi and an SUV at the east entrance to North Battleford Tuesday.
RCMP said shortly after 4:30 p.m. the driver of a westbound semi lost control at the traffic lights at Highways 16 and 40 near the Western Development Museum.
Attempting to avoid a rear-end collision, the semi made a turn but careened through a guardrail and the ditch, and hit a stopped SUV in the eastbound lanes. The two vehicles came to rest alongside the railway tracks, RCMP said in a release.
The driver and lone occupant of the SUV was pronounced dead.
The driver of the semi appeared in provincial court in North Battleford on Wednesday. Harry Weiss, 64, of Barrhead, Alberta is charged with impaired operation of a vehicle causing death and dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death.
