A man well-known in Saskatchewan for his love of sports has passed away.
Dave Ash of Regina’s Dash Tours died after a long battle with cancer. He was 61.
Along with giving tours to sporting and music events, Ash is known for his days being Gainer the Gopher for the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Edmonton Oilers Superfan. He also gave his giant flag to Sydney Crosby to wave at the Vancouver Olympics.
“(It was) an Olympic moment for me when he grabbed that flag from me in the stands and paraded it around the ice symbolically as if it was a Stanley Cup but on a world Olympic stage. It was quite a thrill,” Ash told News Talk Radio in 2010.
Dash Tours started in 1979 with the first tour to see the Toronto Maple Leafs play the Winnipeg Jets in Winnipeg on Nov. 1.
