The smell of a burning home lingered in the air on the 1800 block of Montreal Street, hours after a house fire had been put out on Saturday morning.
Plywood covers most of the windows and doors, but the taupe siding above the windows betrays what happened there with a charred path where the flames burst out.
Regina Fire and Protective Services got a call around 6 a.m. on Saturday about the fire at 1861 Montreal St., just a few houses down from the Core Community Park.
Crews managed to get the fire out in a little over an hour, but not before it did significant damage – starting on the main floor, then spreading to the second.
No one was in the house at the time. As of Saturday morning it wasn’t clear whether anyone was living there.
An investigation is being launched into how the fire started.
