It was a big day for the University of Saskatchewan women’s basketball program.
Fifth-year guard Laura Dally has been named the 2015-16 Canada West Outstanding Player of the Year.
Dally led the Huskies to first place in the Canada West Pioneer Division averaging 17.2 points per game.
It is the second straight season a Huskie has won the award. Dalyce Emmerson was named the Player of the Year in 2014-15.
Dally becomes the fourth different Huskie to win the award, joining last year’s winner Dalyce Emmerson, Kim Tulloch (2010-11), and Sarah Crooks (2005-06, 2006-07).
Head coach Lisa Thomaidis was also honoured by the Canada West on Wednesday, being named the conference’s Coach of the Year.
In nearly two decades at the helm of Saskatchewan, Thomaidis has won the conference championship three times and is now a five-time Coach of the Year.
She is now looking for a third CIS Coach of the Year honour.
The CIS awards will be handed out March 17-20 when the University of New Brunswick hosts the CIS Women’s Final 8.
The Huskies are hosting the Canada West final four this weekend. The top two teams will move on to nationals.
