New appliances for man impacted by power surge

Life is starting to return to normal for a Saskatoon man whose home was affected by a power surge last week.
 
City crews installed the wrong transformer near houses on the 400 blocks of Whitney and Montreal Avenues on Mar. 1. The unit provided twice the necessary power, damaging appliances in 27 homes.
 
Jim Issac was worried about how he’d replace his damaged items immediately following the surge. But on Wednesday, he said he was expecting delivery of a new fridge. He said a new stove was expected to arrive Friday.
 
“Borrowed the Visa card and put everything on there, it was $6,000 by the time (I) got everything done,” he said.
 
Isaac said he was told the city would reimburse him next week. In the meantime, he said he’s glad a long stretch without modern conveniences is coming to an end.
 
“Our fridge has been the back table on the deck. It sounds funny, but it’s like being back on the farm again where we had no fridge,” he said.
