Remington, a dog found shot last week, is out of surgery but not out of the woods yet.
Michelle Spark, director of the Battleford’s Humane Society, says everyone is playing the waiting game.
“As long as no more tissue dies and no infection sets in, he won’t have to have another surgery.”
Remington has had two surgeries so far.
“The first surgery was more about him being sedated,” Dr. Leo Perlinger of the Lakeland Veterinary Service said. “We flushed out some of his wounds and debrided some of the dead material away.”
Dr. Perlinger estimates the wounds were three to five days old before Remington was brought in, which was what caused so much dead material.
In the second surgery, they actually opened up Remington’s wounds to remove the shotgun pellets. Not all the pellets were removed but Dr. Perlinger assured the ones left will not affect him.
If no more surgeries are needed for the shepherd cross the total vet bill will be a minimum of $2,000.
No new information has been discovered as to how Remington was injured. Spark still believes Remington was in the wrong place at the wrong time and most likely ventured onto a farm where he was shot by a farmer.
