The mayor of Wilkie is hopeful the town will have its rink back for next hockey season after an electrical fire damaged the building back in October 2015.
However, David Ziegler admits there’s no date yet for when restoration work is expected to be completed.
Currently there is no fixed date for completion of the restoration. “We’re hoping that it’ll be ready for the new season, but, I guess we’ll see how things progress in the next couple of weeks,” Ziegler said.
The steel structure itself has been fixed, and damaged insulation should be replaced in the coming weeks.
There won’t be many changes to the floor plan. The kitchen and the curling barroom will receive slight upgrades and change rooms being added. Ziegler says it adds up to a “a few walls moved around” on the inside.
