One person is dead following a house fire north of Shellbrook Thursday morning.
RCMP have not confirmed the name, gender or age of the victim.
“We didn’t release that because we are unable to identify them at this point,” Cst. Ryan Rempel said adding what was found was less a body and better described as remains.
RCMP received a call at roughly 8:45 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found the home fully engulfed in flames.
“After the autopsy is completed then we will have positive identification of the victim,” he said adding the procedure was scheduled for Friday afternoon.
The investigation into the fire is being handled by the RCMP, the Shellbrook Fire Department and the Office of the Chief Coroner.
The cause of fire is unknown, but it’s not considered suspicious.
