An all-girl cheer squad from Warman has qualified for the World Cheerleading Championships in Orlando, Florida next month.
The Topaz team, made up of 17 girls, ages 17 and up, was awarded a bid to the competition after winning several qualifying events.
Head coach and owner of Warman Ultimate Cheerleading Leslie Stevenson said this event is like getting into the Olympics.
“Until the sport of cheerleading actually gets in the Olympics, this is as far as you get to go,” she said.
She said she hopes the sport will grow in the province now that they’ve made it to the world stage.
“This is an amazing sport for girls. It’s so empowering to lift and throw and catch and do it all and try to still sparkle at the same time,” she said.
Stevenson said the Regina Rebels will also be representing Saskatchewan at the event.
