A young man from Marshall, Sask. who received one of the highest sentences for child pornography offences in the province is accused of accessing, possessing and distributing sexual images of children while on statutory release.
Shane Dale Pattison, 26, was arrested Tuesday after police searched his home in Saskatoon as part of his release conditions. He was found to have prohibited electronic devices, and charges were laid based on the content police found on those devices.
In August 2012, Pattison was sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to 53 child pornography charges, including sharing more than 4,000 images of children being raped and tortured. One of the charges, producing child pornography, was in relation to a detailed manual Pattison created on how to sexually abuse children.
Pattison had a one-year-old child and a fiancé at the time of his sentencing. During sentencing arguments, court heard he would ask his fiancé to watch child pornography with him, to which she declined.
He was given statutory release in September 2015 after serving two-thirds of his sentence.
As a result of the new charges, Pattison’s release has been revoked. He will be back in court on April 1.
