Charges have been stayed against a former Saskatoon teacher charged with the sexual exploitation of a student between 1999 and 2001.
Erin Dianne McGonigle, 40, was charged in May 2014 with sexual touching and invitation to sexual touching. The investigation started in October 2013, when a then-30-year-old woman reported being sexually assaulted by McGonigle while she was a 16-year-old student where McGonigle taught.
The school division confirmed the teacher worked at Nutana Collegiate when she was arrested in 2014, but police have not said what school she taught at during the timeframe of the complaints. McGonigle’s employment with Saskatoon Public Schools ended in November 2013, according to a news release.
No reason was given for why the charges were stayed. The Crown has up to a year to re-open the case.
