A 29-year-old man is in custody following a Sunday morning incident involving assault, weapons, and police tasers.
Police got a call about a disturbance on the 500 block of Avenue J North around 8:05 a.m. When they arrived they around 35-year-old woman who has been assaulted by a man.
The man came out of a home and started wrecking the woman’s car with a heavy vehicle jack. He then grabbed a small axe and came towards police.
Saskatoon police fired two taser guns, but neither worked because both times only one of two prongs needed to complete the circuit hit the man.
The man then fled back into the home and barricaded himself inside with another edged weapon. Eventually he came back out and surrendered peacefully.
Police believe the man was under the influence of intoxicants. He was taken to hospital and will face charges of assault, mischief and outstanding warrants for assault and vehicle theft.
Police will also review the case, as is policy when tasers are deployed.
